Aug. 30, 2007

Greetings to Alumni and Friends:

As the current players begin preparation for the 54th season of Adelphi Soccer, a new chapter in the history of the program begins. After serving 30 years as Head Coach, I am stepping down to become the Director of Youth Development for the New York Red Bulls professional team.

I am proud of all the student-athletes that I have coached and played with over the past three and one half decades. The greatest joy in coaching occurs after players graduate and return as responsible productive and contributing members of society. So many great players have graced Stiles Field and I treasure the memories we have shared at Adelphi.

I urge all of you to continue to give full support to newly appointed coach, Carlo Acquista and wish him and the 2007 Panthers success.

Dr. Scott and the Board of Trustee has accomplished so much in the past several years, advancing academic integrity renovating the campus and restoring the reputation of Adelphi as an excellent educational institution. This has been accomplished while maintaining the close knit community that makes Adelphi special.

I wish to thank everyone at Adelphi that has made my time here so rewarding. Special thanks to my assistant coaches R. Wiseman, T. Ruane, P Caffrey, T. Lang and A. Reiss who have given so much of their time and energies.

In closing, I would be remiss if I did not thank and acknowledge the wonderful athletic support network that Mr. Hartwell has assembled, coaches, administrators, trainers, grounds crew, you are the best!

Robert Montgomery
