Aug. 10, 2007 Garden City, N.Y. - Carlo Acquista has been named the new head men's soccer coach at Adelphi University as announced by Director of Athletics Robert E. Hartwell. Acquista replaces Bob Montgomery, who served as head men's soccer coach for the past 29 years becoming just the third head coach in the last 40 years. "I'm extremely excited about the opportunity that Adelphi University and Athletic Director Robert Hartwell has given me," Acquista said. "We are going to work extremely hard to uphold the tradition that Bob Montgomery has built at Adelphi over the past 30 years." Acquista leaves St. Francis College (NY), where he held the position of head coach for the past five seasons. During that time, Acquista posted a record of 18-57-10, including an 8-9-1 record in 2004 that included wins over Vermont, Stony Brook and Monmouth. Prior to St. Francis, Acquista was an assistant coach at Hofstra University and was a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, St. John's University. While at St. John's Acquista won a National title in 1996 and also had a hand in two Big East crowns. "We are pleased that Carlo showed an interest and was available and has agreed to take the job. He has done an extremely good job at St. Francis in his recruitment, coaching and administrating," Hartwell stated. "I feel he will maintain our level of success and we are proud to have him replace such a legend as Bob Montgomery." |
