Aug. 10, 2007 Garden City, N.Y. - Bob Montgomery resigned his position as head men's soccer coach at Adelphi University as announced by Director of Athletics Robert Hartwell. Montgomery has been involved with the Adelphi men's soccer program for the past 30 years, 29 as head coach and is leaving to pursue opportunities in the private sector. "Adelphi University will miss our Hall of Fame coach in many ways, foremost as a high quality coach that is constantly recognized by his peers," Hartwell said. "The Intercollegiate Athletic Department will miss his expertise in compliance, eligibility and leadership that have helped our programs blossom and grow. His integral knowledge of Adelphi University, national soccer trends, NCAA rules and regulations will be difficult to replace, but he will always remain a Panther to us." In his 30 years on the bench, Montgomery guided the Panthers to a record of 258-224-39 record, including seven NCAA Division I tournament appearances. Most recently, Montgomery coached the Panthers to their first Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) regular season and tournament championships, earning Montgomery Coach of the Year honors and Adelphi an NCAA berth for the first time since 1992. A two-time all-region coach of the year, Montgomery leaves Adelphi as one of the winningest coaches in NCAA history (currently ranked 43rd). During the course of his career at Adelphi, Montgomery produced 56 all-region performers and 11 all-American honorees. "I have thoroughly enjoyed the working experience at Adelphi University having come in contact with some outstanding people in administration and the student body. Adelphi University has been a big part of my life and my family and I will continue to remain active as an alumni," Montgomery stated. "I look forward to watching the continued growth and construction going on at Adelphi. Dr. Scott and the Board of Trustees have done a great job in moving Adelphi in the direction of greatness." |
