Garden City, N.Y. - Three regional ranked opponents appear on the 2009 Adelphi University men's soccer schedule as well as the Brown Invitational. The schedule, released on July 8, 2009 by head coach Carlo Acquista, features eight home games, with five of those taking place under the lights on Competition Field. Leading Adelphi into the 2009 season will be senior captains, Val Charalambous and Kevin Gluchowski along with junior Alex Kouznetsov.

"I am excited to announce our captains for the upcoming year. All three are experienced leaders on and off the field," Acquista stated. "They have been and will continue to be model student-athlete's amongst the team, athletic department, both in the classroom, and in the community. They are fully prepared to lead the program through the 2009 season."

All three players were honored as All-ASC selections in 2008, the first appearance for both Gluchowski and Kouznetsov, and the second for Charalambous, who appeared in 18 games last season and led the Panthers with seven assists. Gluchowski anchored the defense while making 18 appearances and Kouznetsov also saw time in all 18 games and posted eight points while managing the midfield.

"We are excited about the upcoming season and have a challenging schedule with regionally and nationally ranked teams from seve different conferences as well as our ASC schedule," Acquista explained. "The coaching staff feels that every match will challenge us to reach our ultimate goals."

Adelphi will kick-off the season with back-to-back home games against 2008 regional ranked foes, hosting Big East member Georgetown at 5:00pm on September 1 in their home and season opener. The Panthers will follow that up with a September 5 meeting with Fordham at 6:30pm. Adelphi's first away match will come courtesy of the Brown Invitational on the 11th and 13th of the month against Ivy League competition, Yale and the host Brown Bears.

The Panthers will then host VMI and Lasalle in a span of three-days, getting the Keydets on the 18th and the Explorers on the 20th of September. Then Adelphi will depart for the first of two three game stretches away from Garden City, as the Panthers will travel to Sacred Heart, Stony Brook and St. Peter's on September 23, 26 and 30.

October will open with the Jaspers of Manhattan College arriving on campus on the 3rd for a 6:30 pm contest and then feature a 6:00pm meeting at Princeton. Adelphi will open Atlantic Soccer Conference play with a two-game home stand against Howard on October 10 and 2008 ASC Tournament Champion Longwood on the 13th.

The next three matches will occur away from campus as Adelphi travels to ASC newcomer Houston Baptist for an October 17 contest and then to it's second Big East member school, Syracuse on the 21st. The Panthers will close out the away and ASC portion of the schedule on October 30 in Newark, New Jersey against NJIT and the regular season on November 3 when they host Columbia at 7:00 pm.
