Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's soccer team played host to PAC-10 opponent Oregon State on a hot and humid September 14. The Panthers and Beavers played even for 90 minutes, forcing overtime, when Adelphi put the game away four minutes in. The 1-0 win gives the Panthers an overall record of 2-4, while Oregon State falls to 2-3-1. Adelphi and Oregon State combined for 21 shots in regulation, with the Panthers getting the better of the action, 16-5. Adelphi also held an advantage in corner kicks at the end of regulation, 5-4. The Panthers got the better of the play in the first two halfs but could not find the back of the net, forcing overtime. 4:03 into the extra period Maurico Mora sent the ball into the Oregon State box where it was corralled by Patrick Figueiredo. Figueiredo collected the ball eight yards out, turned and beat Beaver goalkeeper Mike Miller, giving Adelphi its second win in three days. Thorne Holder made two saves in the win for the Panthers, while Miller made five stops for Oregon State. Adelphi returns to action on September 20 when they play host to St. Peter's at 7:00 p.m. in Garden City, New York. |
