Baltimore, MD - The Adelphi University men's soccer team traveled to Baltimore, Maryland on September 5 to take on the United States Naval Academy in the first round of the UMBC Adidas Kick-Off Classic. The Panthers knotted the score at one late in the first half, but fell in overtime, 2-1. The loss drops Adelphi to 0-3 overall, while Navy improves to 1-1-1.

The Mids jumped out early when Chris Marino scored in the 17th minute for a 1-0 Navy advantage. Marino took a lead pass from Matt Tapajcik down the left wing into the Panthers' defense. Marino then struck a shot from 11 yards out that beat the Adelphi keeper Vincent Treglia.

The lead was short-lived as Adelphi's Patrick Figueiredo scored 21 minutes later in the 38th minute to knot the score at one. Figueiredo corraled a cross that came across the box on the ground courtesy of Kemalie Preston and then beat Navy goalie Nolan Grebb.

Adelphi was able to turn away every Navy scoring chance in the second half and force overtime. However the Panthers were unable to get a shot off in the overtime as the Mids scored in the final minute of the first overtime period to steal the win, 2-1.

Adelphi out shot Navy, 8-6, for the contest and the Panthers drew nine corner kicks to Navy's one. Navy was also whistled for six offsides calls and for 16 fouls, while Adelphi had just one and 11, respectively.

Grebb stopped four shots in goal, while Treglia made one save in the loss.

Adelphi will be in action on Sunday, August 7 when it concludes the UMBC adidas Soccer Classic against UMBC at 2:30 pm.
