Richmond, VA - Adelphi squared off against Virginia Tech in the second round of the Nike/Alltell Classic on Sunday afternoon at VCU's SportsBackers Stadium, falling by the score of 5-1. The loss drops Adelphi to 0-2 overall, while VT evens its record at 1-1.

The Hokies jumped on Adelphi early as Stefan Hock struck with the first goal, just 7:06 into the match. Hock scored after receiving a feed from Charlie Campbell in the midfield and then sprinting on a 15-yard breakaway, giving Tech the early advantage.

Ben Nason added the second goal at 16:29, while Georg Zehender added a third goal with 6:46 left in the first half to give the Hokies a three goal cushion heading into the locker room.

Zehender assisted on Patrick Nyarko's goal, which occured at the 61:34 mark of the second half and gave VT a 4-0 edge. The Panthers finally got on the board at the 84:22 mark of the match when a scramble in front of the net gave Patrick Figueiredo a clean look from 10 yards, which he converted into his first goal of the season.

However, James Gilson answered back for VT with 1:14 left in the match after a give-and-go with Terry Boland making the final score 5-1.

For their play during the two game classic, freshman John Koutsounadis and junior Mark Hoffman were named to the all-tournament team. Gerson Dos Santos of VCU was named tournament MVP.

Adelphi returns to action on September 7 when they travel to Baltimore, Maryland to compete in the Loyola College tournament.
