Durham, NH - The Adelphi University men's soccer team closed out the UNH Nike Fall Classic against the University of Maine on Sunday, August 31. The Panthers fell behind 1-0 in the first half and were unable to get on the board, falling 1-0. The loss drops Adelphi to 0-2 on the season, while Maine evens their recrod at 1-1.

The Panthers had the first quality opportunity of the game when Val Charalambous served the ball into the center from the left corner just over 10 minutes into the action. Patrick Figueiredo got his head on it but the ball was just high, bouncing off the crossbar.

Maine got on the board at the 25:43 mark. Thomas McCole found Dimitri Anastasiou who had his low shot go just inside the left post, giving the Black Bears a 1-0 edge at the half.

With 13 minutes left in the match Figueiredo returned the favor, playing the ball into Charalambous, who struck a strong shot at the goalkeeper. Nemanja Kostic made the intial save but the ball trickled loose and headed for the goal, however Kostic was able to corral it before the ball crossed the line.

Kostic made six saves in the win, while Vincent Treglia made four stops for Adelphi. Kevin Gluchowski and Alexander Kouznetsov were each named to the all-tournament team.

The Panthers return to action on Friday, September 5 when they take on the University of Maryland-Baltimore County as part of the Adidas Kick-off Classic.
