Adelphi Has Six Honored as Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars

Adelphi University had six student-athletes recognized by the magazine Diverse Issues in Higher Education as Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars as announced on May 27th. Seniors Patrick Figueiredo, Danielle Parks, Jasmine Travers and Amanda Herrera joined juniors Jeff Perez and Jenilee Fuertes as honorees. Adelphi was the only East Coast Conference member school with student-athletes honored.

Acquista Announces 2009-2010 Recruiting Class

The Adelphi University men’s soccer program and head coach Carlo Acquista have announced their 2009 recruiting class of 14 student-athletes from three different countries, including France and Canada to help the Panthers defend their 2008 Atlantic Soccer Conference Championship. Adelphi finished with a record of 12-6 overall and captured the ASC regular season title, while reaching the ASC tournament finals.

Men's Soccer Holding 7v7 Summer League on Competition Field

Adelphi University head men's soccer coach Carlo Acquista will be holding a 7-v-7 summer league on Adelphi's Garden City, New York campus. The league is being used as a fundraiser for the men's soccer program, and will be held at Adelphi's new lighted stadium.

Men's Soccer Hosting Alumni Reunion

Figueiredo Named Nassau County Sports Commission Male College Athlete of The Year

It was announced that Adelphi senior men's soccer player Patrick Figueiredo will be honored as the Male College Athlete of the Year by the Nassau County Sports Commission. Figueiredo will be honored at the 15th Annual Awards Dinner at 7:00 pm on Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place, New York.

Adelphi Soccer Programs Holding Summer Camp, July 13-17 and July 20-23

The Adelphi University men's soccer program and head coach Carlo Acquista, along with women's head coach Rich Ilsley be holding a co-ed skills camp starting July 13 and running through July 17 for players age 6-13. Acquista will also offer a four-day soccer academy for boys age 14-18, that will offer advanced training.

Figueiredo Earns Invitation to Preseason Camp With The New York Red Bulls

Adelphi University senior Patrick Figueiredo participated in an invited try-out last week with the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer (MLS). The weeklong tryouts featured an eclectic mix of players, from those invited to the MLS Player Combine and did not get drafted, to local college players. Out of the many participating player's seven were chosen to travel with the Red Bulls to Bradenton, Florida for their preseason camp, including Figueiredo.

Figueiredo Named NSCAA/Adidas Scholar All-American

Adelphi University senior forward was among the 44 players named to the NSCAA/Adidas Scholar All-America team. A second-team selection, Figueiredo, a biology major, boasting a grade point average of 3.73, was one of 22 Division I players honored.

Adelphi University senior Patrick Figueiredo and sophomore Thorne Holder placed among the nation's best in a combined four NCAA statistical categories. Both Figureiredo and Holder earned all-conference honors and were among the top-20 in the country in two statistical categories.

Both Men and Women's Soccer Earn NSCAA Team Academic Honors

For the 11th time in 12 years, both the men and women's soccer programs have been recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) for its team academic excellence. A total of 373 NCAA and NAIA soccer programs (109 men, 264 women) posted a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the Team Academic Award for 2007-08.

Figueiredo, Preston Named NSCAA All-Region

Figueiredo was a third-team All-America as announced on Wednesday, November 19.

Men's Soccer Falls in ASC Title Game, 1-0

The Adelphi University men's soccer team took on third seed and Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) tournament host Longwood in the championship game. The top seeded Panthers out shot the Lancers, 10-8 but could not find the back of the net, falling 1-0. The loss drops Adelphi to 12-6 overall, while Longwood finishes 9-8-3, including their first ASC title.
