Gongas '07 Drafted By The Long Island Lizards; Signs With New York Titans

Garden City, N.Y. - Former Adelphi University men's lacrosse All-American Michael Gongas (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) was drafted by the Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse (outdoor) and signed a contract with the New York Titans of the National Lacrosse League (indoor) in the past week. Gongas was drafted by the Lizards on December 5 and was the 75th overall selection.

Gongas received second-team USILA All-America honors in 2007 after leading the Panthers in points (49) and assists (30). A first-team All-East Coast Conference selection at attack, he was also second on the team with 19 goals and scored two game winners. Gongas closed out the season ranked sixth in the country in assists per game with an average of 2.15 and is 16th in points per game (3.69).

In two years at Adelphi Gongas amassed 102 points on 40 goals and 62 assists. He averaged 4.08 points per game in 25 appearances and helped the Panthers to a 13-13 record over the past two seasons.

"I'm extremely excited about having the opportunity to compete in two professional lacrosse leagues," Gongas said. "Not many people get the chance to play professional sports and I get to play just a few miles from my home in front of family and friends."

The New York Titans open the season on January 12th at Portland, their home opener is on January 31st against San Jose at 7:30 pm in Madison Square Garden.
