Sept. 23, 2008

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University's head men's lacrosse coach, Gordon Purdie announced both the 2008 fall schedule and the addition of 21 members to the lacrosse squad on September 23. The Panthers add fourteen freshman and seven transfer students to the 2009 team and will play three fall dates.

Adelphi will play on three consecutive Sundays in the month of October beginning on Sunday, October 5 with the alumni game at 1 pm. The field will open at 12:30 pm for warm-ups and the game will start 30 minutes later. The alumni game will be followed by an Adelphi University and Suffolk County Community College scrimmage at 3 pm. Both contests will take place at the Outdoor Sports Complex on Competition Field.

On Sunday, October 12 the Panthers then travel to Rockville Centre, New York to take part in the Molloy College Fall Lacrosse Tournament. Adelphi will face East Coast Conference rivals Dowling College (10:30 am) and LIU-C.W. Post (1:30 pm) as well as Farmingdale State College (12:00 pm) and Kean University (3:00 pm).

Adelphi will close out the fall schedule on Sunday, October 19 at home against the Long Island Lacrosse Club and the New York Lacrosse Club. The Panthers will take on Long Island at 2:15 pm and New York at 5:00 pm.

Purdie will also introduce 21 new faces this fall to a team that posted an overall record of 7-5 in 2008 and an ECC mark of 3-3.

"With a solid group of young men and skilled lacrosse players, my first-ever recruiting class looks to be a talented one," Purdie stated. "With the returning talent and the addition of this recruiting class, we will hopefully have the edge needed to reach our goal of succeeding in the East Coast Conference."
