Feb. 22, 2006 Manhattan, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team was selected to finish third, receiving one first place vote, in the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference by the coaches. The Panthers return four starters from last year's squad. C.W. Post, which returns nine starters, has been selected to claim the top prize in 2006, and NYIT, last year's NCAA Division II champion and NYCAC champion, was picked to finish second. Adelphi senior attackman Wes Green (Adelaide, Australia) is the coaches' preseason Player of the Year selection. Green was named to the NYCAC All-Conference First Team last season as well as NCAA First Team All-America. Last spring, he scored 37 goals, collected 12 assists, and was named the top attackman in Division II. Junior midfielder Stephen Mortimer (Adelaide, Australia) joins player of the year Green in receiving preseason accolades. Mortimer posted career-highs last year in goals (17) and assists (5), while finishing the season third on the team in points with 22. "The NYCAC had two of the Final Four participants last year and is perhaps the strongest lacrosse conference in the country," said Ed Manetta, NYCAC Commissioner. "We expect another exciting run for the championship and, hopefully, multiple NCAA Division II Tournament teams again in 2006." The Panthers open their regular season this Sunday, February 26 at home when they host Notre Dame De Namur at 1:00 pm on Stiles Field. 2005-06 NYCAC MEN'S LACROSSE PRESEASON POLL 1. C.W.
