Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team has been selected to finish fifth in the East Coast Conference (ECC) in a poll of the leagues coaches. The New York Institute of Technology Bears have been selected as the preseason favorite, while C.W. Post fills in the No. 2 slot and Mercyhurst comes in at three. Senior Eddie Ege has been tabbed as the conference Preseason Offensive Player of The Year. Adelphi posted a conference mark of 3-3 in Gordon Purdie's first season at the helm. Purdie was named ECC Coach of the Year for his efforts, guiding the Panthers to a 7-5 overall record. Ege was a first-team All-American in 2008, as well as the Division II Attackman of The Year, ECC Player of The Year and a first-team All-ECC selection. He led the nation in points (74) and assists (52) last season and netted 22 goals in his 12 games. 2008 Division II Goalie of the Year and First Team All-America pick, Jason Lashomb of Mercyhurst was selected this year's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
