Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University Head Men's Basketball Coach James Cosgrove has announced three co-captains for the upcoming 2009-2010 season. Junior Richard Byrd will join seniors Casey Cosgrove and Chris Diasparra as captains for Adelphi first season as a member of the Northeast-10 Conference.

"We are excited about next year and we feel that with our returning players and a very good incoming class that we are in a position to be very competitive in the Northeast 10 conference." Cosgrove stated. "We feel that Chris, Casey, and Richard are ready to lead this team in 2009-10."

Byrd a first-team All-MET and All-East Coast Conference selection, led the Panthers in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per game and is also tops in rebounds, pulling down 6.4 misses per contest. He is hit on 84.1 percent of his free throws and had also picked up 38 steals and 42 assists.

Cosgrove earned second-team All-East Coast Conference honors in his first season with the Brown and Gold, after leading Adelphi in steals (45) and assists (139). In addition Cosgrove is averaged 10.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest.

Diasparra's 2008-09 season was cut short due to injury, but he started all 30 games during the 2007-08 season, averaging 9.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest. In addition he added 54 assists and 21 steals.

Adelphi posted a record of 20-9 overall last season, including a conference mark of 13-5 in East Coast Conference play.
