Garden City, N.Y. - One nationally ranked opponent, five more who received votes and four NCAA Regional participants highlight Adelphi's 2009 schedule. The schedule, released on November 3, 2008 by head coach Dom Scala, features 20 home contests, which will be played on William J. Bonomo Memorial Field and a southern swing through Florida. "We had a strong fall and our pitching and defense were at mid-season form," coach Scala commented. "Just like every season we have areas that we need to improve and if our bats come alive we could have a great 2009 season." The schedule will open on February 28 with a double-header against nationally ranked Franklin Pierce and then three more home contests against New Haven, Bloomfield and Umass-Lowell. The Panthers will then swing through Florida March 9-15 to take on national vote getters Lynn University and Florida Tech as well as regional opponent Southern Connecticut State University. The middle of March will feature four straight non-conference match-ups as Adelphi hosts Dominican and Felician on the 18 and 19 and then travel to Bloomfield on the 21st and host St. Anselm on March 23. The Panthers open East Coast Conference play on March 25 with a 3:30 pm meeting with Queens and follow that up with 2008 NCAA Regional participant Caldwell College. From there Adelphi gets into the meat of their ECC schedule with dates against traditional rivals, Molloy and Dowling. The Panthers will face Molloy on April 11 in Rockville Centre and then host the Lions the next day. Dowling will travel to Garden City on April 14 and 21 with Adelphi making the return trip to Oakdale, New York on April 29. The Panthers close out the schedule on May 2 and 3 with cross town rival and NCAA participant C.W. Post. Adelphi will travel to Brookville for a double header and will then host the Pioneers in their regular season finale. "Our schedule has a great mix of regionally and nationally prominent opponents that should put us in a great position when it comes time for Regional play," coach Scala commented. "This schedule also sets us up to make a seamless transition into the Northeast-10 in 2010." |
