Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University Head Baseball Coach Dom Scala has announced three co-captains for the upcoming 2009 season. Senior outfielder Robert Paccione and senior infielder Mike Colonna will join 2008 captain Ryan Boelsen.

"I believe that these three players will build on the outstanding leadership we had last season," Scala said. "Their work ethic on and off the field will keep us focused and will guide us throughout the season. They are true leaders and I am proud to have them serve as captains."

Boelsen, a second-team ABCA/Rawlings All-Region and East Coast Conference (ECC) selection in 2007, appeared in every game for the Panthers in 2008. He was second on the team in hits (54) and stolen bases (10), while splitting his time between catcher and first base.

Colonna earned NCAA Division II All-Northeast Regional honors in 2007, posting career-highs that year in batting average (.333), hits (55) and RBI (31). In 2008 Colonna was a main stay in the Panther line-up appearing in 48 games and leading the team in assists with 146.

Paccione had a breakout year in 2008, leading the Panthers in batting average (.332), hits (61), runs scored (27) and stolen bases (14). He also posted an on base percentage of .395, appeared in all 50 games and was named first-team all-conference.

Adelphi finished the 2008 season with an overall record of 25-25, reaching the semifinals of the ECC tournament.
