June 20, 2007 Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University has announced that it has broken ground on a new baseball complex that will be set to open in September of 2007. The total cost of the project is $1.4 million and Adelphi University and head coach Dom Scala have already raised $600,000 toward that goal. The new field will be constructed of field turf with cut outs for the bases, home plate and the pitcher's mound. The Panthers will also have new 50-foot dugouts, enclosed bullpens with two pitchers mounds and seating for 500 fans, as well as bathrooms and storage space. The whole field will be enclosed and the outfield will feature an eight foot high fence with a wind screen. The upgrades will allow Adelphi to hold both conference and regional playoffs as well as tournaments. Grand opening festivities are planned for September so check www.aupanthers.com for updates about "opening day".
