Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University junior pitcher Keith Couch probably won't return to Garden City for his senior season next fall. Couch was drafted in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft by the Boston Red Sox. He is the second Adelphi baseball player in the past three years to be drafted, joining former Panther Bobby Lanigan.

"I am very proud of Keith, he not only became a great pitcher here at Adelphi, but matured to be a great captain and leader of our team," Head Coach Dom Scala stated. "He watched Bobby Lanigan become a pro and copied his work ethic and how he went about his business. He told me that someday he'd also be a pro and he achieved that status today. This is another great day for Adelphi Baseball and the Athletic Department."

Couch, the 413th selection, was a Daktronics second-team All-East Region and a NCBWA All-Region second-team selection this past season after posting a 5-2 record with a 2.24 earned run average in 13 appearances. The junior threw a team-high 76.1 innings, while also recording a team-best 83 strike outs. Couch held his opponents to a .229 batting average to go along with two saves and two complete games.

In addition Couch was an ABCA All-East Region First Team honoree and a NCBWA All-East Region Second Team selection in 2009 while also earning first-team All-ECC status. He followed that up with first-team all-Northeast-10 honors in 2010.
