Baseball Coach Ron Davies Will Not Return in 2004

Garden City, N.Y. - Head Baseball Coach Ron Davies' contract will not be renewed for the upcoming season as announced today by Adelphi University Director of Athletics Robert E. Hartwell. The athletics department will begin an immediate search for a replacement.

The Panthers, who made their last NCAA tournament appearance in 1999, finished the 2003 season 7-30 overall and 4-18 in the NYCAC.

Davies, a 1959 graduate of Adelphi, had been the head coach at Adelphi since 1964. Over the past 39 years he amassed an 845-470-10 career record, putting him in the top 20 among all-time winningest Division II coaches. A four-time NCAA Northeast Region Coach of the Year, Davies career highlights also include 12 NCAA tournament appearances and four NCAA World Series appearances. Under Davies, the Panthers also picked up three NYCAC titles in 1993, '96 and '97, for which he also earned NYCAC Coach of the year honors in 1993.

Upon his graduation from Adelphi in 1959, Davies coached the squash team for 15 years, winning eight Metropolitan Championships. He was inducted into the Adelphi University Hall of Fame in 1968. He also earned a Bachelor of Laws (1963) and Juris Doctor (1967) from Brooklyn Law School and is a practicing attorney and partner in Davies & Davies law firm.
