Couch, Boelsen Earn ABCA and NCBWA All-Region Honors, Melillo Named ABCA Selection

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University senior Ryan Boelsen and sophomore Keith Couch were each named 2009 ABCA and NCBWA All-East Region selections, while teammate Bill Melillo was an ABCA honoree. This is the first NCBWA and ABCA honor for both Couch and Melillo, while Boelsen was a second-team ABCA pick in 2007.

Boelsen, a first-team ECC, and second-team ABCA and NCBWA selection at catcher, led the Panthers in RBI with 39 and was second in total bases with 87 and batting average, hitting .361.

Couch was a first-team ECC and ABCA honoree, and a NCBWA second-team pick as a starting pitcher after posting a record of 9-2 overall with an ERA of just 1.31 with 75 strike outs in 89.1 innings of work and six complete games.

Melillo, a ABCA second-team all-region selection at first base led the Panthers in batting average, hitting .401. A second-team All-ECC selection, Melillo also led Adelphi in total bases, with 92, and slugging percentage at .568, with 30 RBI and 32 runs scored.

Adelphi closed out the 2009 season in the NCAA Division II East Regional final, after capturing the East Coast Conference regular season and tournament crown.
