West Palm Beach, FL - The Adelphi baseball hit the halfway point of their Florida tour yesterday in West Palm Beach as they played the Seahawks of Northwood University in a double header. The Panthers suffered losses in each of the two games, were out-hit 20-19 and committed five combine errors on the day. The 8-1 and 5-3 defeats brought Adelphi's record to 2-6 while Northwood advanced to 22-3. Game 1: The Panthers got out to an early start as a sacrifice fly from Chris Weidlein brought home Mike Tobia for the early one run lead. However, that would be the only run the team would put up on the scoreboard. The Seahawks responded early in the first with a two run inning followed up by another four runs in the third and two more in the fourth for the 8-1 win. Robert Paccione, Tobia and Ryan Boelsen all registered two hits on the day while pitcher Michael Carletti got the loss. Game 2: Both teams swapped single runs in the second inning beginning with Adelphi when Anthony Anzalone walked and scored on a sacrifice fly from Robert Paccione. Northwood responded when Frankie Mambuca's looping single to right center brought home Dan Speerin. In the fourth, consecutive singles from Mike Collona and Paccione set up Thomas Harper to drive them home for a 3-1 lead. Northwood started a rally in the fifth inning with back-to-back walks to Nik Smith and Corey Cooke followed by an Adam Bornstein bunt to load the bases. Two singles and a walk later, the Seahawks were up 5-3 and would not relinquish the lead in the remaining innings to take the victory. Chris Pabish tossed a solid four innings giving up just four hits, two walks, four strikeouts and two earned runs, but unfortunately picked up the loss. Senior Thomas Harper led the way for the Panthers with a 2-3 effort with two RBI. Ryan Boelson and Joe Cassano each chipped in with two hits apiece. The Panthers return to action today when they take on the Owls of Southern Connecticut State at 4:15 in Palm Beach, FL. |
