Central Islip, N.Y. - The Adelphi University cross-country team swept the East Coast Conference (ECC) weekly awards this week as Adam Clark and Ify Anene were each named Runner of The Week and Angel Ortega and Kristen Wojtuniak earned Rookie of The Week honors. This is the first selection for each athlete this season. Clark paced the Panthers to a first place finish at the 3rd Annual Hofstra Invitational. He captured the Division II/III individual title with a time of 16:12.26 and missed out on the overall title by just 8 seconds. This is Clark's first collegiate title. Newcomer Ortega opened his collegiate career with a second place finish among Division II/III runners. He covered the 5K course in 16:18.39, placing fourth overall and helped the men scored just 17 points, out distancing second place St. Joseph's College 17-69. Anene opened her final collegiate season by capturing the overall individual title at the 3rd Annual Hofstra Invitational. Anene's time of 19:38 put her 14 seconds ahead of second place. This is the third career individual title for Anene. Wojtuniak made her collegiate debut at the Hofstra Invite, placing fifth overall. Her time of 20:09.15, placed her third among Division II/III runners behind teammates Anene and Danielle Matteo and helped the Panthers to the team title with a perfect score of 15. Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, September 27 when they travel to Boston, Massachusetts to compete in the Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park. |
