Adelphi Sweeps NYCAC Cross Country Scholar Athlete Awards For The Second Straight Year

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University senior Katie DiPietro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and junior Mike Marzano (Whitestone, N.Y.) have been selected as the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) scholar-athletes in women's and men's cross country for the 2004 season. This is the second year that the NYCAC has given the scholar-athlete award and the second straight year that Adelphi has sweep the honors.

DiPietro, the NYCAC 2003 cross country scholar-athlete, was a second-team all-conference selection, after finishing ninth overall at the conference meet in a time of 21:06. DiPietro is also on the executive board of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC). An exercise science major with a double minor in mathematics and business management, DiPietro carries a 3.796 cumulative average and recorded a 3.9 in the fall.

Junior Mike Marzano was a second-team All-NYCAC selection.


Marzano, a three-year letterwinner at Adelphi, was a second-team all-conference selection, placing 12th at the conference meet in a time of 28:40 and was a NYCAC runner of the week selection on September 20. A sports management major, Marzano compiled a GPA of 3.52 in the fall and carries a cumulative average of 3.247.
