Boston, MA - The Panther's cross-country squad traveled Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, November 8 to compete in the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship. The women ran to a third place finish overall, out of 25 full competing squads, while the men placed fourth, just a point out of third, as 26 teams fielded full squads. The men were paced by Freshman Andrew Coelho who crossed the line in 14th place, good enough for first-team all-region honors after crossing the line in a time of 32:23. Next across the line was sophomore Angel Ortega, in 20th place, stopping the clock in 32:45. Junior Ryan Pezzulo and Senior Carlos Techera were third and fourth for the Panthers, running to 24th and 32nd, respectively with times of 32:56 and 33:36. Rounding out the top-five was senior Adam Clark in 41st place, closing out Adelphi's scoring with a time of 33:50. On the women's side, senior Danielle Matteo led the harriers with an excellent sixth place finish, good enough for first-team all-east region, clocking in at 23:04. Freshmen Gina Cristaldi and Cassie Papandrew were next across the line for the Panthers, placing 20th and 26th with times of 23:56 and 24:23. Junior Catherine Connors was fourth for the Panthers in 34th place as she crossed the finish mat with a time of 24:44. Jenilee Fuertes rounded out Adelphi's top-five scorers as she finished just behind Connors in 35th with a time of 24:46 on the 6K course. The women's race was won by Stonehill College's Erin Carmone, who led her team to a first place finish and a berth at the NCAA Championship in Evansville, Indiana. The men's individual champion was freshman Glarius Rop from American International College, and UMASS Lowell was the overall men's team champion. |
