Oct. 5, 2009 Lehigh, PA - The Adelphi University cross-country team traveled to Lehigh, Pennsylvania on Friday, October 2 to compete in the 40th annual Paul Short Run. The women competed in the prestigious gold race, where they placed 40th in an extremely competitive field, which included several nationally ranked division I teams, and the 2008 Canadian cross-country champions. The men placed second in the brown race out of 38 competing teams and, just six points behind Wayne State. Crossing first for the Panthers was senior Danielle Matteo in a personal best 6K time of 21:58, placing 104th. Next across the line for the Adelphi was freshman Gina Christaldi, who ran 22:45, good enough for 189th overall. Junior Catherine Connors (23:47) and freshman Cassie Papandrew (24:04) placed 258th and 265th, respectively, and Kristin Eberhardt (24:15) rounded out Adelphi's top-five in 271st place. On the men's side, the top five ran together for most of the race, and had a nine second spread. Finishing first for the Panthers was sophomore Angel Ortega in 25:49, placing 31st. Junior Adam Clark, senior Carlos Techera, junior Ryan Pezzulo, and freshman Andrew Coelho were the next four to come in for the Panthers, placing 37th, 39th, 41st and 42nd, and all running between 25:53 and 25:58. The Panthers next take the course at the Northeast-10 conference championships on October 25th, in Colchester, Vermont. |
