Staten Island, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Staten Island, New York to compete in the Wagner Invitational on Saturday, September 11th. Both teams ran over a combination of back woods trails and concrete paths, the women improved on last year's showing and placed third in the Division II and III race, while the men took home fourth. The women were led by Katie DiPietro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), who placed second in the Division II and III race in a time of 21:03, just five seconds behind the leader. Diane Buonpane (Holbrook, N.Y.) and freshman Melissa Coelho (Wantagh, N.Y.) placed 16th and 21st overall. Buonpane covered the five kilometer course in 22:35, while Coelho finished in 22:47. Jen Mayo (Floral Park, N.Y.) placed 28th and Nadine Rossi (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) claimed 30th to round out the top five for Adelphi. On the men's side the top two runners, Will Marshall (Laurelton, N.Y.) and Mike Marzano (Whitestone, N.Y.) finished 12th and 13th respectively. Marshall finished in a time of 30:17, while Marzano covered the eight kilometer course in 30:23. Freshmen Aaron Warner (Queens Village, N.Y.) and Matt Dispensa (College Point, N.Y.) also finished within seconds of each other. Warner clocked 31:58 in his collegiate debut to finish in 23rd place, while Dispensa was timed at 32:11, good for 25th place. Senior Russell Bestenheider rounded out the top five for Adelphi, finishing 33rd. The Panthers return to action on Saturday, September 18th when they travel to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx to participate in the New York University Invitational. Results: Women: |
