Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men and women's cross-country team opened the 2007 season with half the team competing in the Towson Invitational and the remaining members running in the Hofstra Invitational. At the Towson Invitational the men turned in a fifth place performance, whlie the women took home sixth overall. Freshman Ryan Pezzulo was the top finisher on the men's side at the Towson Invite, placing 18th overall in a time of 28:05. Pezzulo was followed by senior Mike Dorman in 34th (29:00) and freshman Adam Clark in 41st (29:45). Freshman Thomas Eickelberg and junior Jon Hilbert rounding out Adelphi's top five, placing 47th (30:11) and 68th (33:48). Junior Ify Anene and senior Danielle Connor paced the women, both placing in the top-20. Anene was 14th overall with a time of 19:42, while Connor took home 19th, crossing the line in 20:08. Senior Meghan Farrell and junior Danielle Matteo both crossed the line under the 22 minute mark, with Farrell placing 47th (21:27) and Matteo coming home in 55th (21:59). Sophomore Heather Troutman rounded out Adelphi's top five, stopping the clock at 22:04, good enough for 58th overall. Senior Melissa Coelho was the top female finisher at the Hofstra Invitational, placing 17th overall and second overall among Division II and III finishers with a 6K time of 25:55. On the men's side sophomore Jeff Perez captured the Division II and III overall title, crossing the line in 28:08, 24 seconds ahead of second place. Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, September 15 when they travel to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York to compete in the New York University Invitational. |
