March 23, 2007 Garden City, N.Y. - On Thursday, April 19, 2007, William Phillips will be inducted into the 37th Annual Athletic Hall of Fame. He is one of eight that will be honored that evening. The ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Ruth S. Harley University Center on the Garden City campus. Phillips was a two-sport athlete while at Adelphi, lettering in both men's soccer and track and field from 1975-78. He still holds four school track records in the 1500 and the mile and as a member of the two-mile relay. He earned All-America honors in 1978 when he finished third in the NCAA Championships in the 1500 meters. A goalkeeper in soccer, he is ranked in the top five in career shutouts and single-season goals against average. He also made three NCAA Division II appearances, helping the team to a third-place finish in 1975. Phillips currently resides in Plano, Texas and is Senior Director of Corporate Sponsorships for the Dallas Mavericks. The Adelphi University Athletic Hall of Fame was founded in 1961 to honor those athletes, coaches and friends who have distinguished themselves during their time at the university and thereafter.
