West Orange, NJ - The Adelphi University track and field team traveled to Seton Hall University on December 11th to compete in the Seton Hall Games. The meet was the first of the indoor season for Adelphi and the Panthers turned in some quality performances. On the men's side freshman Matt Dispensa (College Point, N.Y.) ran a strong race in the 3000 meter run, turning in a personal best time of 9:50.32 to place fourth in his heat. Freshman Aaron Warner (Queens Village, N.Y.) started his indoor campaign strong as well, clocking 55.98 for the 400 meter run. Fellow Freshman Sean Murphy (Lynnbrook, N.Y.) turned in a time of 24.72 over 200 meters to place third in his heat. Junior Mike Marzano (Whitestone, N.Y.) ran a smart race in the men's mile to place eighth in his heat and stopped the clock at 4:42.81. Marzano was also a member of Adelphi's 4x800 meter relay team that placed second in a time of 8:23.3, senior Ryan Soltan (Sayville, N.Y.), junior Will Marshall (Laurelton, N.Y.) and Warner comprised the rest of the team. Freshman Morgan Russell (Baldwin, N.Y.) clocked a time of 10.10 in the 60 meter hurdles to place second in her heat and fourth overall. In the women's 3000 meter run freshman Melissa Coelho (Wantagh, N.Y.) and senior Nadine Rossi (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) finished fifth and sixth in times of 12:24.33 and 12:27.88. Katie DiPietro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) opened her senior campaign with a time of 5:39.93 in the women's mile to take sixth place overall. Freshman Megan Murphy (Lynbrook, N.Y.) led a pack of Adelphi runners in the women's 200 meter sprint. Murphy clocked a time of 29:11 followed by Russell (29.25), Ricki Velotti (Hewlett, N.Y.) (29.32) and Ashley Merkle (Bohemia, N.Y.) in 29.94. The women closed out the meet by placing second in the 4x800 meter relay in a time of 11:09.84. DiPietro, Lauren Spota (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), Coelho and Meghan Farrell (Holtsville, N.Y.) ran each of the four legs. The Panthers return to action January 14th when they travel to Kutztown, Pennsylvania to compete in the Kutztown Invitational at 5:30 pm. |
