West Haven, Conn. - The Adelphi men's team scored 88 to edge out host New Haven for third place at the NYCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The women's team scored posted 43 points to claim fourth place overall. Both scored are an improvement over last season when both teams finished fourth overall. Carlyshia Hurdle (Brentwood, N.Y.) led the women's team, scoring points in three events. Hurdle took second in the Discus (27.69M), fourth in the shot put (9.18M) and fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 15.67 seconds. Diane Buonpane (Holbrook, N.Y.) collected the only other second place finish for Adelphi women's team, taking second in the 3000 meter steeple chase (14:13.26). Buonpane also finished fourth in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:44.69. Liz DiRico (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) collected points in two events as well, placing third in the long jump (3.9M) and fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 15.02 seconds. Jessica Haynes and Jenine Kostyra (Lynbrook, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for Adelphi, placing third in the 3000 meter steeplechase (15:44.9)and sixth in the discus (11.18M). Russ Bestenheider (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) paced the men's team, scoring 30 points in his individual events. Bestenheider placed second in the Javelin (36.11M) and the high jump (5-08 Ft.), third in the 110 high hurdles (19.09) and the pole vault (10-00 Ft.) and fifth in the triple jump (12.28M). Mike Marzano (Whitestone, N.Y.), Joseph Cahill (Kingston, N.Y.), Ryan Soltan and Dave Harvey (Belmar, N.Y.) all ran and placed in the 3000 meter steeplechase for Adelphi. Soltan placed third (10:12.1), while Cahill took fourth (10:37.92), Marzano fifth (10:42.3) and Harvey collected sixth (10:45.68). Marzano and Soltan also placed one-two in the 400 meter hurdles, with Marzano taking third (1:01.67) and Soltan (1:02.71) picking up fourth. In the 1500 meter run Soltan placed fifth (4:34.89), and Harvey took third in the 5000 with a time of 16:15.49. Marzano also placed in the 800 meter run, taking fifth with a time of 2:06.54. Cahill scored in the only field event that he competed in, placing sixth in the shot put with a heave of 8.88 meters. Joe Accardo (Westbury, N.Y.) also chipped in, placing fourth in the 110 high hurdles with a mark of 19.78 seconds. Mike Riccio (Holtsville, N.Y.) proved his NYCAC indoor championship in the pole vault was no fluke by clearing 12 feet to claim the matching outdoor championship. Riccio also claimed fifth in the javelin with a toss of 33.4 meters. The men's 4x400 meter and 4x800 meter relay teams round out the scoring for the Panthers, both teams collected second place in the Relay's. Team Scoring:
