Jamaica, N.Y. - Sophomore Katie DiPietro was the top runner for the Adelphi women's track team, helping the Panthers to a fourth place finish with 41 points in the NYCAC Outdoor Championships, held yesterday at St. John's University. The men's team also finished fourth with 44 points. NYIT swept both the men's and women's championships finishing with 228 and 168 points, respectively. C.W. Post teams were second, followed by New Haven's men and women's teams. DiPietro captured the only first place title for the Panthers, running the 3.2 mile race in 19:57.39, ten seconds faster than her nearest competitor. DiPietro also finished second in the 1,500 meters in a time of 5:07.24. Other scoring runners were Diane Buonpane with a third place finish in the 800 meters and fifth place finish in the 1500 meters. Heather Ratana was third in the 400 hurdles and fourth in the 100 hurdles. On the men's side, John Loehr was the top runner for the Panthers, taking third in the 1500 meters in 4:11.20 and fourth in the 5,000 meters in 16:24.82. Ryan Soltan and Joseph Cahill were second and third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 10:07.35 and 10:39.65, respectively. David Harvey was sixth in the 5K in 16:31.44. Russell Bestenheider finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 18'9". |
