Allentown, PA - The Adelphi University track and field team traveled to Allentown, Pennsylvania on April 23-24 to compete in the Collegiate Track Conference Championships held at DeSales University. The women bettered their showing from a year ago, moving up six spots to place 12th overall, while the men placed 14th. Three women scored in individual events, led by freshman Morgan Russell (Baldwin, N.Y.) whose time of 17.03 in the 100 meter hurdles placed her fourth. Senior Katie DiPietro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) took home seventh in the 1500 with a time of 5:06.5, while junior Carlyshia Hurdle (Brentwood, N.Y.) claimed fifth in the discus with a toss of 32.56 meters. The women also ran well in the relays as DiPietro, Melissa Coelho (Wantagh, N.Y.), Meghan Farrell (Holtsville, N.Y.) and Megan Murphy (Lynbrook, N.Y.) combined to post the teams fastest 4x800 meter time of the year (10:25.35) and place fourth. Murphy and Russell teamed up with fellow freshmen Ricki Velotti (Hewlett, N.Y.) and Ashley Merkle (Bohemia, N.Y.) to place fifth in the 4x100 meter relay in a time of 52.29. The men were led by senior Ryan Soltan (Sayville, N.Y.), who collected the team's only first place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:51.88. Pete Ninivaggi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) was the only other individual scorer for the men, taking fourth in the shot put with a heave of 13.93 meters. Soltan, junior Mike Marzano (Whitestone, N.Y.) and freshmen Aaron Warner (Queens Village, N.Y.) and Sean Murphy (Lynbrook, N.Y.) placed third in the 4x800 meter relay, just edging out C.W. Post at the line by 0.42 seconds. The Panthers return to action on Thursday April 28-29, when they travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to compete in the Penn Relays. |
