Center Valley, PA - Adelphi traveled to DeSales University to compete in the CTC outdoor track and field championships on April 17th. The Panthers finished eighth overall in the men's competition with a total of 41 points, the women finished eighteenth overall. On the women's side, Diane Buonpane (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored the only point for Adelphi, placing eighth overall in the 800 with a time of 2:36.05. Mike Marzano (Whitestone, N.Y.) finished sixth overall in the men's 800 with a time of 2:00.04. Marius Donadelle (Hollis, N.Y.) placed seventh in the men's 100 meter dash, posting a time of 11.57 seconds. Dave Harvey (Belmar, N.Y.) completed a distance double, running the 10,000 meter run on Saturday and then coming back on Sunday to compete in the 5,000 meter run. Harvey placed fifth in the 10,000 with a time of 34:21 and seventh in the 5,000 (17:23.07). John Loehr (Selden, N.Y.) also competed in the 10,000 taking fourth with a time of 34:14. Loehr also placed top five in the 1500, posting a time of 4:06.86 which placed him fifth overall. Joe Cahill (Kingston, N.Y.) took 12th in the 1500 with a time of 4:22.27. Ryan Soltan (Sayville, N.Y.) ran the 3000 meter steeplechase and took fourth place overall, coming across the line in 10:12.73. Teammate Russ Bestenheider (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) competed in the most trying event of the two-day meet, the decathlon. Bestenheider competed in 10 events over the course of two-days. On the first day he ran the 100 meter dash and the 400 meter dash, competed in the long jump, high jump and shot put. On the second day Bestenheider ran the 110 high hurdles and the 1500 meter run, while competing in the discus, pole vault and javelin. Bestenheider placed third overall with 4,107 total points. The highlight of the two-day meet for the men's team was the 4x800 meter relay. The Panthers came in to the meet as the reigning CTC outdoor 4x800 meter champs. Adelphi's Soltan, Marzano, Loehr and Cahill defended their title, running 8:11.35 and edging out Misercorida College by just .21 tenths of a second. The Panthers will travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this week to compete in the Penn Relays. |
