Kings Point, N.Y. - The Adelphi University track and field team traveled to Kings Point, New York on April 16 to compete in the United States Merchant Marine Academy Bill Omeltchenko Invitational. Adelphi came away with a total of 17 top-10 finishes, including six top-fives.

Carlyshia Hurdle (Brentwood, N.Y.) placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 104 feet, while teammate Ricki Velotti (Hewlett, N.Y.) covered 100 meters in 13.22 seconds to place seventh overall. Megan Murphy (Lynbrook, N.Y.) stopped the clock at 1:02.48 to take fourth in the 400 meter dash.

Katie DiPietro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) continued her strong senior season, placing fourth in the mile with a time of 5:20.62. Morgan Russell (Baldwin, N.Y.) also placed fourth, crossing the line in 16.73 in the 100 meter hurdles. Nadine Rossi (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) placed 10th in the 5000 meter run in a time of 20:58.

The Adelphi women also ran well in the relay's placing fourth in the 4x400 meter relay (DiPietro, Ashley Merkle (Bohemia, N.Y.), Russell, Murphy) in a time of 4:20.1, while the 4x100 meter relay (Murphy, Merkle, Russell, Velotti) placed seventh (53.36). Merkle also found individual success in the 400 meter hurdles, placing seventh in a time of 1:14.8.

On the men's side Pete Ninivaggi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) continued his strong throwing, placing third in the shot put with a heave of 45-10 and placing tenth in the discus (118-06). John Albrecht also threw well, placing ninth in the shot put with a toss of 41-02.

Mark Pollard (Deer Park, N.Y.) covered 200 meters in 23.13 seconds to take ninth in the 200 meter dash. Will Marshall (Laurelton, N.Y.) and Aaron Warner (Queens Village, N.Y.) finished less then half a second apart in the 800 meter run, taking eighth and ninth respectively with times of 2:00.19 and 2:00.44.

Ryan Soltan (Sayville, N.Y.) cut over 45 seconds off of his personal best in the 5000 meter run, placing fourth overall in a time of 15:49.12. Adelphi's 4x400 meter relay team (Warner, Marshall, Pollard, Sean Murphy (Lynbrook, N.Y.)) also ran well, placing seventh overall in a time of 3:32.14.

Adelphi returns to the track on Saturday, April 23-24 when they travel to Allentown, Pennsylvania to compete in the Collegiate Track Conference Championships.
