Adelphi Competes In Monmouth Season Opener

West Long Branch, N.J. - Adelphi traveled to West Long Branch, New Jersey on March 27th to compete in the season opener at Monmouth University. The meet was a non-scoring meet for the Panthers, but Adelphi did turn in some strong performances.

In the 100 meter dash Marius Donadelle (Hollis, N.Y.) ran well, finishing ninth overall with a time of 11.29. He also competed in the 200 meter dash, finishing 15th in 23.16. John Loehr (Selden, N.Y.) ran both the 1500 meter run and the 5000 meter run. He finished the 1500 in 4:10.23, placing him 16th overall. In the 5000 Loehr placed ninth in a time of 16:08.65.

Senior Dave Harvey (Belmar, N.Y.) ran the longest event of the day, the 10,000 meter run. Harvey took seventh in 33:44.23. Mike Marzano (Whitestone, N.Y.) competed in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing in a time of 1:01.14. Marzano also teamed with Joe Cahill (Kingston, N.Y.), Ryan Soltan (Sayville, N.Y.) and Loehr to run the 4x400 meter relay. Adelphi claimed ninth place in a time of 3:35.87.

In the field Russ Bestenheider (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) had his best showing in the triple jump. He finished sixth overall with a jump of 38 feet three inches.

On the women's side Diane Buonpane (Holbrook, N.Y.) ran a season best 2:34.69 in the 800 meter run. Her time placed her 25th out of 48 competitors. Jenine Kostyra (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Lauren Spota (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) also competed for the Panthers. Kostyra ran the 100 meter dash in 14.7 and Spota turned in a time of 1:11.25 in the 400 meter dash.

The Panthers return to action Saturday, April 3rd when they travel to Dallas, PA to compete in the Misercordia Invitational.
