Houston, TX - The Adelphi University track and field team sent three athletes to the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship meet on March 13-14. The Panthers traveled to Houston, Texas to compete against the best in Division II on the campus of the University of Houston. In all Adelphi posted three top-15 finishes. Senior Kevin Durant posted the best finish, placing 11th in the preliminary rounds of the 60 meter dash in a time of 6.87, missing out on a spot in the final by 0.04 seconds. Freshman Mychael Fabio placed 15th in the preliminary round of the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.15. Sophomore Danielle Lyons placed sixth in her heat of the 800 meter run and 13th overall in the prelim a time of 2:15.88. "I'm extremely proud of all three athletes, they represented Adelphi and our team well," Head Coach Adam Siepiola stated. "We would have liked to perform better on the national stage, but this is the first time in over 20 years that an Adelphi uniform has been worn at a national meet, so we are excited about that and about outdoors." Adelphi will open the 2009 outdoor track and field season on March 19-20 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational. |
