New York, N.Y. - The Adelphi track and field team traveled to the Armory in Manhattan to compete in the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Championships. The men picked up 23 points to place 15th out of 23 teams, the women placed 15th out of 21 teams competing with 18 points. Adelphi found success in the relays, scoring a combined 25 points in four relays. The men's 4x800 meter relay broke the existing school record by over 10 seconds, posting an 8:02.78 to finish second. Mike Marzano (Whitestone, N.Y.) Ryan Soltan (Sayville, N.Y.), Will Marshall (Laurelton, N.Y.) and Aaron Warner (Queens Village, N.Y.) just missed out on first, falling to Trinity College by less then a second. Marzano, Marshall and Warner teamed up with Mark Pollard (Deer Park, N.Y.) to record their fastest time of the season in the distance medley relay, finishing third in 10:42.39. The women's 4x200 meter relay team crossed the line in 1:52.33 to place fourth, missing out on third by less then six tenths of a second. Megan Murphy (Lynbrook, N.Y.), Ashley Merkle (Bohemia, N.Y.), Ricki Velotti (Hewlett, N.Y.) and Morgan Russell (Baldwin, N.Y.) combined for the effort, which was their first 4x200 of the season. Meghan Farrell (Holtsville, N.Y.), Murphy, Lauren Spota (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Katie DiPietro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) stopped the clock in 13:19.83 to claim third in the distance medley relay. Their time of 13:19 was over 27 seconds faster then just a week ago. Individually Marzano placed third in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:37.23, while Pete Ninivaggi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) continued his strong season, heaving the shot put 13.59 meters to place sixth overall. Russell qualified for the finals of the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.26 seconds and placed sixth in the finals with a dash of 9.35 seconds. Russell also placed in the triple jump, finishing seventh with a leap of 9.61 meters. Murphy transitioned from the distance medley relay to run to a seventh place showing in the 400 meter dash in a season best 1:02.38. Adelphi returns to the track on February 27th when they travel to West Orange, New Jersey to compete in the Seton Hall last chance meet. |
