New York, N.Y. - The Adelphi University track and field team traveled to the New Balance Track and Field Center to compete in the first day of the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Friday, February 8. Freshman Danielle Lyons lowered her own school record and posted an NCAA qualifying mark in the 800 meter run. Lyons placed 21st out of 69 runners in the college division of the 800 meter run, crossing the line in a time of 2:16.89. While not only a new school record, Lyons time is under the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 2:18.3, making her the first female track and field athlete to run a NCAA qualifying mark in over two decades. Sophomore Obed Bienne and senior Aaron Warner also ran well, placing 37th and 39th out of 77 athletes in the college division of the 800 meter run. Bienne edged Warner at the line, posting a school record time of 1:56.83, while Warner clocked in at 1:56.85. This is the second time this season that Bienne has lowered the school record. Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, February 9 when they compete in the second day of the New Balance Collegiate Invite and the first day of the CTC Indoor Championship meet.
