East Stroudsburg, PA - The Adelphi University track and field team traveled to the campus of East Stroudsburg University on February 6 to take part in the DeShriver Invitational. The Panthers turned in eight top-ten finishes and climbed into the top-five in just three events at the highly competitive meet.

Junior Mike Marzano (Whitestone, N.Y.) was the lone athlete to score an individual top-five finish, crossing the finish line in 2:37.75 to take fourth in the 1,000 meter run. Pete Ninivaggi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) scored a personal-best in the shot put with a heave of 45-7 ½ to place seventh and just miss out on the finals. Marzano, freshman Aaron Warner (Queens Village, N.Y.), junior Will Marshall (Laurelton, N.Y.) and senior Ryan Soltan (Sayville, N.Y.) combined to place fourth in the distance medley relay in a time of 10:44.32.

The women's distance medley team comprised of freshmen Melissa Coelho (Wantagh, N.Y.), Megan Murphy (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and seniors Lauren Spota (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Katie DiPietro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) placed fifth with a time of 13:47.24. DiPietro also placed ninth in the 800 meter run, stopping the clock at 2:30.63, while Coelho placed eighth in the 3,000 meter run in a clocking of 11:53.34.

Freshman Morgan Russell (Baldwin, N.Y.) also had a solid meet, placing seventh in the 55 meter hurdles in 9.27 seconds, just missing out on the finals. Russell also set a new personal best in the triple jump with a leap of 32-11 ½, placing her eighth overall.

Adelphi returns to the track on February 12th and 13th when they will compete in the CTC Championships held at the Armory.
