West Point, N.Y. - The Adelphi track and field team traveled to the United States Military Academy at West Point on Saturday January 29th to compete in the Army Open. Mark Pollard (Deer Park, N.Y.) and Katie DiPietro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) both turned in outstanding individual performances, wining the 200 meter dash and the mile run respectively.

Pollard won the men's 200 meter dash in a time of 23.43 seconds and placed third in the long jump with a mark of 20-6.25 feet. Two second places finishes were also turned in by the men, Pete Ninivaggi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) placed second in the shot put with a heave of 13.63 meters (44-8.75 feet), while junior Mike Marzano (Whitestone, N.Y.) placed second in the 800 meter run in a personal best 1:58.96.

The men's 4x800 meter relay team, consisting of Will Marshall (Laurelton, N.Y.), Ryan Soltan (Sayville, N.Y.), Aaron Warner (Queens Village, N.Y.) and Marzano ran away from the field to place first thanks to a strong first leg by Marshall to cross the finish line in 8:17.84, taking first by over six seconds.

DiPietro controlled the women's mile run from the start and pulled away from her competitors in the last 200 meters to cruise to a two second victory in 5:25.7. Freshman Melissa Coelho (Wantagh, N.Y.) took home fifth in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 3:36.56. Morgan Russell leaped 9.9 meters (32-5.75 feet) in the triple jump to take fourth overall, missing out on third by less then an inch.

Nadine Rossi (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Matt Dispensa (College Point, N.Y.) also ran well, just missing out on top-five finishes. Rossi clocked a 21:19.69 personal best in her first five kilometer run of the season to place sixth overall. Dispensa lowered his personal best in the three kilometer run for the third consecutive race by stopping the clock at 9.26.83 to place sixth.

Adelphi returns to action as a team on this Sunday, February 6th when they travel to East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania to compete in the DeShriver Invitational. Warner and fellow freshman Sean Murphy (Lynbrook, N.Y.) will be competing in the prestigious New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Friday February 4th and Saturday February 5th at the Amory.
