New York, N.Y. - The Adelphi University track and field team traveled to the New Balance Track and Field Center in New York, New York on Friday, January 18 to compete in the Gotham Cup. In addition to setting personal bests the Panthers set five school records and saw six athletes compete in the championship portion of the meet. Obed Bienne competed in his first 800 meter run of the season, along with teammate Aaron Warner in the championship 800. Bienne cut seconds off his personal best, placing 11th overall in a school record 1:57.81, while Warner placed 15th in 1:59.20. Matt Dispensa also ran in the championship 5000 meter run, placing 13th overall in a time of 15:38.26. In addition Garrett Chapman established a new school mark in the pole vault, clearing 3.90 meters. The men's 4x400 meter relay also ran well, as Warner and Bienne teamed up with Mark Pollard and Sean Murphy to stop the clock at 3:29.75, placing fifth in their heat. On the women's side, Danielle Lyons placed seventh overall in her 800 meter debut, clocking a time of 2:19.89 in the championship 800 to set a new school record. Jen Malenovsky and Morgan Russell also set school records as Malenovsky covered 5000 meters in a time of 18:25.08 and Russell lowered her own school mark in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.54 in the heats to earn a spot in the championship section. The women's 4x400 meter relay also performed well, running a season best time of 4:15.18 as Heather Troutman, Jenilee Fuertes, Lyons and Russell combined to place third in their heat, missing out on second by 0.08 seconds. Adelphi returns to action on Friday, January 25 when they travel back to the New Balance Track and Field Center to compete in the Great Dane Classic. |
