Feb. 28, 2005 Pittsburgh, PA - The Adelphi swim team traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to compete in the ECAC championships which were held at the University of Pittsburgh from February 25-27. The Panthers swam well, posting two top-20 performances and one top-10 performance. Sophomore Jerri Lester (El Paso, Texas) turned in Adelphi's only top-10 performance in the 100 yard breaststroke. Lester turned in a time of 59.73 in the finals which was good enough to play her ninth overall. Freshman Charlie Castillo (Uniondale, N.Y.) also swam well, placing 12th overall in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.35. Castillo's performance was fast enough to qualify him for the NCAA meet with the "B" standard. The women's 200 yard freestyle relay team, which was comprised of Lester, freshman Amanda Knapp (Utica, N.Y.) and sophomores Victoria Gardner (Middle Village, N.Y.) and Kathy Dodd (Albany, Georgia), placed 13th overall in a time of 1:44.77. The NCAA Division II Championship meet will be held on March 9-12 at YMCA Aquatic and Family Center in Orlando Florida. |
