Swimming Splits Duel Against Queens

 
 

 
Cozzi picked up three wins against the Knights

Flushing, NY - Swimming traveled to Flushing, New York, to take on the Knights of Queens College in a duel meet. The men were able to come out on top of the Knights, 112-69, while the women up just a bit short, falling 127-104 due to the lack of diving. The men improve their record to 3-3, while the women move to 3-3 on the season.

The merwomen began their meet with a win in the 200 medley relay in a time of 2:05.2. Swimming on that relay was Nicole Mulligan, Jacquelyn Birkel, Kimberly DeVivo and Laura Pashayan. One event later in the 1000 free, the Panthers were able to take spots two and three by Kelly Mark and Jennifer Scarnati respectfully. Charlotte Davies continued the Brown and Gold's effort with a second in the 200 free in 2:07.22. Freshman Brittany Ferencik picked up a win in the 400 IM in 5:05.26, and one event later touched first again in the 100 fly in 1:07.08. Mark followed her teammate with a 1:12.46 second place. The 100 back saw the Panthers take first and third by Mulligan and Scarnati and in the 500 free Davies notched a win in 5:34.09. The Panthers closed their meet with a 1:51.07 win in the 200 free relay with the team of Sarah Bove, Mark, Pashayn, and Mulligan. The Knights were able to pick up 26 points in the 1 meter dives which proved to be the difference in the match-up.

The men picked up 13 unanswered points in the 1000 free with Thomas Eickelberg and Daniel Sparnroft going one/two respectfully as the Panthers began separating themselves from the Knights. Zachary Terzano picked up a first in the 200 free in 1:51.02, and in the next event, Tory Cozzi won the 50 free in 23.57. Corey McKee continued his strong run in the 100 fly, winning in 53.60, breaking the the existing school record of 53.76 set by Timmy Mueller. Cozzi added to his win column with a 51.16 effort in the 100 free, and McKee touched first in the 100 back in 56.27. Brad Meaney picked up a win in the 100 breast in 1:07.68. The Panthers closed their effort with a first place finish in the 200 free relay swam by Cozzi, McKee, Terzano and Michael Litvinoff.

The mermen and women will return to action on November 22, when they travel to Kings Point, New York to swim in the Kings Point Invitational.
