Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University swim team hosted Stevens Institute of Technology January 31, with the Panthers pulling away with wins from both teams. The women picked up a 54-41 win improving their record to 5-2. The men are now 6-1 after holding off Stevens 58-35. Jerri Lester (El Paso, TX) led the women as she won both the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.75 and the 100 freestyle (1:02.48). She was also a member of the winning 200-medley relay event with Kelly Mark (Wantagh, N.Y.), Rachel Rice (Houston, TX) and Caylee Squillante (Sayville, N.Y.). Mark won one of her individual events, swimming away with the 500 free. Matthew Jordan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) led the men's team as he won three events on the day. Jordan won the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events with times of 22.00 and 49.44 respectively. Jordan also helped the 200 freestyle relay pull away with a win in 1:33.65. Brendan Berry (Bellerose, N.Y.) and Brad Meaney (Staten Island, N.Y.) were also a three event winners. Berry was also a member of the 200 free relay, and won the 1000 freestyle (10:33.91) and the 500 freestyle (5:08.88). Meaney was a member of the 200-medley relay (1:44.76) as they won by only .02 seconds over Stevens (1:44.78). Brad was also victorious in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.33 and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.50) The Panthers will now gear up for their postseason as they head to New Brunswick, N.J. for the Metropolitan Conference Championship on February 16. |
