Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University Men's and Women's swim teams swept visiting New Jersey Tech on Saturday January 22nd. The men outscored NJIT by a score of 53-40 to earn their second win in their last three match-ups, while the women won their second consecutive contest with a 55-35 decision. Matt Jordan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and freshman Charlie Castillo (Uniondale, N.Y.) and Brendan Berry (Bellerose, N.Y.) were all multiple individual event winners for Adelphi. Jordan took home first in both the 50 yard freestyle (22.73) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:11.24), while Berry claimed first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:57.02) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:13.64). Castillo, who has already qualified for the ECAC championships in the 100 yard breaststroke, won the 200 yard breaststroke (2:16.6) and the 200 yard butter fly (2:12.91). Three Adelphi women won multiple individual events to help the Panthers to a 55-35 win. Beth Ebert (Middletown, CT) collected wins in the 1,000 yard freestyle (12:31.82) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:35.57), while teammate Victoria Gardner (Middle Village, N.Y.) won both the 50 yard freestyle (27.92) and the 100 yard freestyle (1:01.96). Jerri Lester (El Paso, TX) rounds out the multiple winners for the women, taking first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:21.09) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:35.51). The Panthers return to action on Wednesday January 26th when they play host to visiting Stevens Tech at 7:00 pm in Woodruff Hall. |
