Newark, NJ - The Adelphi men's and women's swim team traveled to Newark, New Jersey on Saturday, January 21 to take on NJIT. The women came home with a convincing 100-64 win, while the men collected a 105-85 victory. With the win the women rise to 4-3 in dual meets, while the men improve to 4-2. The women picked up seven individual first place finishes in the meet, six of those came from three swimmers. Jerri Lester (El Paso, Texas), Kathy Dodd (Albany, Georgia) and Caylee Squillante (Sayville, N.Y.) posted two first place finishes apiece. Lester took home first in the 400-yard individual medley (4:55.53) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:26.11), while Dodd completed the distance double, taking first in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:20.37) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:46.26). Squillante managed first place finishes in both the 50 freestyle (27.16) and the 100-yard freestyle (59.74). The men collected eight first place finishes, missing a sweep of first place showings in every individual event by one. The Panthers showed great team depth with six different swimmers combining for their eight first place finishes. Benjamin Dellagiovanna (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and Matt Jordan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) were the only double winners for Adelphi. Dellagiovanna finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.76) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.42), while Jordan captured first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.93) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.35). The Panthers return to action on Saturday, January 28 when they travel to Albany, New York for a 1:00 pm meeting with St. Rose. |
