KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The Adelphi swim team traveled to Kings Point, New York on January 18 to take on US Merchant Marine Academy. The women dominated the lanes as they pulled away with a 65-29 win, improving their record to 4-1 overall. The men competed well, but fell short 52-43 as they suffered their first loss of the season, dropping to 4-1. The women captured nine out of ten first place finishes, including both the 200-yard medley and freestyle relays. Taking home two individual first place finishes was Kelly Mark (Wantagh, N.Y.) in the 1000 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Kathy Dodd (Albany, GA) also added ten points to the Panther score with wins in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Jerri Lester (El Paso, TX) won both 200 IM and 100 backstroke. Rounding out Adelphi's wins was Caylee Squillante (Sayville, N.Y.) in the 50 freestyle. Benjamin Dellagiovanna (Forest Hills, N.Y.) won the first event for Adelphi in the 200 freestyle. Adelphi would take home wins in the next two events with Matthew Jordan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) in the 50 freestyle and Brad Meaney (Staten Island, N.Y.) in the 200 IM. The 200 freestyle relay won Adelphi's final event with a team composed of Dellagiovanna, Jordan, Andrew Meditz (Douglaston, N.Y.) and Brendan Berry (Bellerose, N.Y.) The Panthers return to action on January 20, 2007 when they travel to Smithfield, RI to take on the Bulldogs of Bryant University. |
