Men's Swimming Falls To USMMA but Tops York, Women Swim Past USMMA

Kings Point, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's and women's swim teams traveled to Kings Point, New York on January 13th to take on the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) and York College. The men came away with a split, topping York, 78-9, but falling to USMMA 63-32, while the women out swam USMMA 52-43.

On the women's side Jerri Lester led the way with two individual first place finishes. Lester claimed first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:18.63) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:01.86). Kathy Dodd (Albany, GA) won the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:45.06, while teammate Amanda Knapp (Utica, N.Y.) took home the only other first place finish for Adelphi, placing first in the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.39).

Matt Jordan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) claimed the two first place overall finishes for Adelphi in the 100 yard freestyle (48.73) and the 50 yard freestyle (22.06). Freshman Charlie Castillo (Uniondale, N.Y.) was the only other Panther swimmer to finish first overall, taking first in the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:00.91, nearly four seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

The Panthers return to action on January 22nd when they play host to visiting New Jersey Tech at 1:00 pm in Woodruff Hall.
