Kings' Point, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's and women's swim team traveled to King's Point, New York on Thursday, January 12 to take on the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) and John Jay College. The men fell to host USMMA 133-84, while the women picked up an 84-11 win against John Jay, but came up just short against USMMA, 57-54. With the loss, the men fall to 3-2 in dual meets, while the women remain even at 3-3. Jerri Lester (El Paso, Texas) and Kathy Dodd (Albany, Georgia) led the women's team with two individual wins apiece. Lester took home first in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:15.92, she also captured first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.31). Dodd managed first place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.24) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:44.79). Caylee Squillante (Sayville, N.Y.) and Amanda Knapp (Utica, N.Y.) also posted first place finishes for Adelphi. Squillante took home first in the 50-yard freestyle (27.22) while Knapp won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:07.75. The men had a strong team showing, capturing four individual first, by four different swimmers. Benjamin Dellagiovanna (Forest Hills, N.Y.) placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.16), while teammate Matt Jordan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) finished first in the 100-yard freestyle (48.37). Brendan Berry (Bellerose, N.Y.) and Charles Castillo (Wantagh, N.Y.) round out the first place finishers for Adelphi, taking first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.81) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:03.65). Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, January 21 when they travel to Newark, New Jersey for a 1:00 pm meeting with NJIT. |
