Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University mourns the loss of Mauricio Saavedra who was killed in a car accident in Pennsylvania on Friday, November 2, 2007. Information about a campus memorial service will be shared as soon as details become available.

Saavedra was a senior and a member of the men's golf team, Kappa Sigma fraternity, and other student clubs and organizations. As a member of the golf team Saavedra helped revive the program, which is currently ranked second in the region. He also captured his first individual title this fall at the Army Fall tournament on October 2.

"Mauricio will be deeply missed," Athletic Director Robert Hartwell said. "He was a leader and a role model. All around he was just a great person."
